      hi folks,
just thought i would share this with you, my wife and i really like this one restaurant with a lake front view and awesome food, we have been going there for the 6 years it has opened, however they play the stereo system quite loud, always thought it was loud even when i did not have tinnitus,so when the tinnitus thing happened in my left ear april 12 ,2013,some things had to change, could we still go to that restaurant with a loud stereo ? i thought, well,i went to the manager and told her i have tinnitus with a little explanation, they turned down the stereo for me and everytime we go there when i walk in the stereo gets turned down automatically,so i can still go to our favourite restaurant with respect, take care,k.c ( kevin charles)

      Hi, KCB,

That is very encouraging to me! I've noticed that so many restaurants these days have really turned up the volume on their background music, and it would be annoying, even without tinnitus.

I'm glad to hear that the manager at your favorite restaurant listened to you and turned it down, so it can continue to be your favorite restaurant!

      That's great astronomer.
What a considerate place, i'd leave a good tip.

Like-wise, I'm into quiet dinners lately. As Karen mentioned -
So many popular places seem packed with talking people, or music, or sports TV's, or loud room acoustics,
It's harder to fine a quiet dinner than you think... so far.

James thanks for putting words to what I was experiencing last night. Loud room acoustics.
Out to dinner with family and wow did the room seem loud with plates hitting against each other, people talking and the music. How does every one handle eating out? Ate very "clean" for my T and still woke up with it very loud, what gives?

      hi sherri,
you can get (soft )earplugs that allow you to hear but just enough to cushion the loud sounds if you are afraid of that at restaurants, the whole idea is to not be shy that you have tinnitus, have a pleasant evening,by the way i dont eat out all the time, there is nothing like home cooking, astronomer

Hi Kcb , thank you. Actually more than the noise, I wouldn't know what to eat ! I was never allergic to any food but since the T almost everything spikes my T, salt, sugar, spices, I'm trying to avoid gluten and see if there will be any improvement in the T. Btw this morning I ate 2 cloves of very thinly chopped garlic added it to my chick pea flour pancakes and T remained v low all day..... Maybe the garlic helped.

That's a good experience, Kevin. It is good that now you are able to visit your favorite restaurant without worrying about your ears. I'm sometimes a bit sick of paying attention to the volume of music and asking staff to turn the volume down. And often with another song, the volume gets as loud as before again. I rarely tell anyone about my tinnitus though. At the moment I'm avoiding noisy restaurants and bars. It helps my ears, but it is also quite a boring strategy.

Kcb- good advice . For now I am just avoiding noisy places .
It sucks to make all these changes ..I can't go to the bars, wedding receptions etc.
Last time I was at a reception I told my friends I can't be here because my ears are very sensitive ..they kinda understood and if they didn't i don't care .we are the one who have to live with torture if we are shy about this issue .
