I'm wondering if anyone has this type of tinnitus.

I have what I can best describe as a electrical sounding buzz. I get this at varying times and it usually lasts at the most 24 hours.

It may not reappear for days or weeks or even months, although recently it's been more frequent. The buzz is extremely pattern oriented. The buzz will last maybe a second and then disappear for a couple of seconds then repeat.

It's the off and on buzz that's the worst part. It almost seems if it was steady I would be able to ignore it better.

Another odd thing is that at times I may get that first buzz and that will be it.

Also, I can tell when it's about to let up as the buzz becomes inconsistent. This only occurs in my left ear.

Thoughts?

My non-medical opinion is that unless this has been happening for years, it may be evolving in to something consistent. Something similar happened to me: after getting up in the morning to use the bathroom, I'd lay back down again for another hours worth of sleep just to have my normally unnoticeable tinnitus rise way up in volume. Once I got up, it would go away. After a few more instances of that, it became consistent. I hope this isn't the case for you, but it's all I could relate to. Have you had your hearing checked?

Thanks for the reply Brendan. No, I haven't had a hearing test in a long time. I suppose I should do that. I have had this happening for a few years now, but it does seem to happen more frequently lately. It's very annoying when it first starts because I know it will last about 24 hours if it continues. I can block it out if I'm doing something though.

My latest idea is to maybe find a bluetooth over the ear head piece for that ear and download som matching white noise to at least keep the sound constant (it's the intermittence of it that constantly draws my attention to it). Maybe that will help.

Interesting that you mention you deal with "unnoticeable tinnitus". I think I have that also. It's like a low constant ringing. That really never bothers me because it is constant and a a very low level that I must be use to.

BTW...As I was rereading my initial post, I realized I said it was my left ear. Actually it's my right ear that the on and off buzz is in. Odd thing is that the low constant ringing is in both ears.

Oh well, life goes on I guess. Things can always be worse.
