Hi Everyone. Just Started to Experience Tinnitus, Could Do with Some Advice

Hi. I'm 18 and I started to experience tinnitus in my right ear about 1-2 days ago. It's a high pitched noise that isn't super loud but is certainly noticeable, annoying and debilitating

I don't go to cinemas or loud concerts or anything like that on a regular basis. However, I listen to things with my headphones very often which could be the cause. For now I'm trying to avoid using my headphones even though it's tempting to listen to something with them in order to drown out the noise.

I will be making an appointment with my doctor as soon as possible. In the meantime I've been feeling anxious about the possibility of my tinnitus being permanent because it seems to often be permanent from the details I've read online. I've already found myself significantly distracted and affected by the condition so the thought of it being permanent is extremely scary.

Would love to hear any advice or useful information that anybody might have. Thanks for reading.

Few things.
- Cut out the headphone usage for a good while.
-Don't frequent this forum, There is an crazy amount of excellent help around here but it's pretty easy to get freaked out.
- Get some musicians ear plugs, you're able to get these from most audiologists.Wear them!
-Relax, there's a good chance it'll fade if you let your ears rest for a while.

 

go to the doctor now, as in right now, and get the steroid pack.

take a bunch of Curcumin powder. you may recover if you act fast.

 

Hey. I am trying to act fast but I must say it's very scary to seem like I have to act so quickly for a chance at recovery. I'm trying to book an appointment with my doctor right now via the phone but their phone line is constantly engaged and it's very likely I will have to wait until Monday for an appointment.

Hi and thanks for the welcome. I will cut out the headphone use for sure and hope that I recover. It sucks because I don't really feel like doing anything right now since the tinnitus is all that's on my mind, so I'm mostly just staying in bed.

If I get musician's earplugs how often do you think I should wear them?

 

I know the feeling of not wanting to do anything, It's difficult but try and keep yourself busy, I for one play video games, guitar, something that really takes all your concentration if you stop and notice it just keep going.

Don't wear the plugs all the time, just in noisy situations, large crowds, walking down a busy street, house parties? They work really well for blocking external noise but allowing you to hear.

You most likely have very slight hearing loss in the upper frequencies responsible for your tinnitus, hope it goes away. I'd lay off the headphones for a while as well.

btw do you have TMD or cervical issues?

 

As far as I know I don't have TMD or cervical issues.

 

if you go to an ENT make sure you get an extended audiogram that checks for speech in background noise, lots of hearing test are very inaccurate and out of date.

 

Just a small update, fortunately I was able to get an appointment with my doctor later today.

 

Go to one of those walk in clinics and tell them you just got hearing damage and you saw that they intervene with a steroid pack. the curcumin is protective against oxidative stress.
