Hey everyone,

My hyperacusis has been really disheartening lately as I can't even watch YouTube videos on my phone comfortably let alone television.

I keep getting pressure and tightness on my face at even low volumes and even stinging pain at times.

Are there any steps I can take to heal so that I can listen to normal volume media without having discomfort/pain?

Pain hyperacusis, increased loudness sensitivity and trigeminal nerve pain maybe different subtypes of hyperacusis all together. Not every hyperacusis patient is describing the same thing.

Do you feel burning in your ears, or just jaw facial aches, numbness and fatigue?

Do you notice some noises sound louder than normal?

The best thing you can do is let your ears rest but do not over protect them.

Maybe try pink noise therapy at your own discretion.

Not much burning pain, that has settled down, but I feel popping that's uncomfortable and also my ears are pretty much numb for the most part. I get facial stinging and tightness as well as aches which sometimes even make it difficult for me to speak much due to my jaw tightness. And yes some noises do sound much louder. My trigeminal nerves are definitely going nuts since I'm not really able to taste food as well as before and also I get throat pains.

The goal is to get the medical community to recognize acoustic trauma SNHL can lead to trigeminal neuralgia like issues.

Does your doctor, ENT, or anyone have any specific instructions on how you should manage hyperacusis?

So can acoustic trauma actually lead to damaging of the trigeminal nerves thus the loss of taste? And sadly no my ENT just left me with a here's amitriptyline to calm the nerves and basically rushed me out.

I've never heard of that, losing taste. Did you also lose your sense of smell?

Please seek medical help because of that as it's a serious issue of possibly a larger problem, don't see ENTs, see a neurologist or neuro-otologist. (brain ear doctor)

No, the theory is that the auditory brain and the trigeminal nerve communicate with one another, and this process becomes corrupt when the auditory nerve is damaged. No one knows exactly what is going on.

I cannot provide any more information, there's many people who claim sound therapy like TRT totally cures hyperacusis, this may be true for one sub type of the condition but it certainly does not apply to every case.

People need to seriously stop seeing ENTs. they are useless for these conditions. it is totally outside their discipline.

ENTs are getting a bunch of patients who have these really complex neuro-otological conditions that aren't even classified or understood correctly and they are basically just disregarding them. They don't even check for hearing loss correctly. They act like TRT and sound therapy has all the answers as if they know how to cure a condition that is poorly understood.

I'm feed up with it, I wish there was a way patients could aid actual researchers that way we'd make progress instead of "learning to live with it" CBT and acceptance BS. So much more could be done to make a suffering patients life productive.

You can't just go to a doctor and say I have muffled hearing, tons of tinnitus tones perceived in both my ears and head, burning ear pain, facial numbness and jaw pain and ask for them to do research on you to figure out the pathologies of the problem?

No, they immediately start shilling TRT and whatever Jastreboff said 30 years ago.
