I Found a Study Where Ondansetron Was Used for Tinnitus. Anyone Try This for Tinnitus?

It said it reduced the "tinnitus severity index".

Although the study doesn't mention it, I found this study on low dose Odansetron (which I actually could have the pills for but I would want to ask my doctor first because I am not sure I would want to take it yet everyday) that helped reduce OCD in people. I wonder if that helps with reducing "Tinnitus Severity"? Oh well, I'm not a scientist so that is just a thought.

I've used it before but never at those doses. It can help me with nausea better than any drug I have ever taken. Currently, I am only prescribed to take one 4mg pill a day as needed (which has been rare). I was originally prescribed this drug many years ago but never took it for multiple days in a row. Be sure to discuss with a doctor about all potential side effects if you decide to take it.

Right now I am just posting this information because I haven't seen anyone post it. If you have any feedback on using this medication, please post it. Thanks!

Also, I figure I will throw in a tidbit here for anyone who currently buys medication. I have saved a bunch of money using goodrx.com and lowestmed.com. I think they are different companies so it's best to check both sites. Basically, I type the medication in and my zip code and check out with pharmacy has it the cheapest with the coupon. I posted this on another thread a while back but figured I would throw it in here. This is expensive for me without a coupon! Best wishes.

@JasonP That's an interesting find. 5ht3 antagonism is helps depression (also causes weight gain - which is probably why it works for nausea). Hey, I just wanted to chime in and say I take ondansetron on occasion for psychogenic related nausea and ibs and I have found that it does indeed reduce my tinnitus for a couple of hours after dosing, its weird its not like the noise gets quieter, it just feels less intrusive if that makes sense. The drug itself is incredibly safe, butttttt can be really expensive, in Australia it's like 20 dollars for 10 tablets so i can't even begin to imagine the cost of it in America.

Liam, that's great it helps you with the tinnitus. I just checked out www.goodrx.com today (5-15-2018) and one of the pharmacies here has it for $9.39 for 30 odansetron tablets when you print out the free coupon. Normally at that pharmacy it is around $119.

Well now thats a whole of a lot more reasonable, now I just want to add, it is entirely possible that this is just some weird placebo effect, I personally find that pretty much any medication I take effects my tinnitus in some way, both positive and negative.

Yeah its also been shown to help with schizophrenia symptoms along with the tardive dyskinesia that comes from using antipsychotics. Also Ondansetron unlike other 5ht3 antagonists doesnt make me sleepy or hungry or gain weight.

Wow that's interesting. I have taken 4mg Odansetron once in a while for occasional nausea and never noticed any side effects.
