Well if you want to reply and the other person to get a notification, click "Quote" at the bottom right of a person's comment or post. Then at the bottom of the page above "Similar threads", type your message, and then click the "Post Reply" button on the bottom right of the comment field.

Thank you Threefirefour. I tried that, but the post I wanted to reply to was long, so I can edit the "quote" to a part I am sort of "replying to" or...? Trying to figure out the "good form" way to do so

In the very bottom right of the original post there is the word "quote" That will copy and paste the original post to a new box, and you can start typing your response. OR, you can just select (highlight) certain text in the post, and the word "quote" will appear. select that, and you can start typing in the new box.
