l Think I Have It All... (Tinnitus + Hyperacusis + TTS + ETD+ TMJ)

Discussion in 'Support' started by demi, May 17, 2014.

    1. I personally do not think having ldls repeatedly checked are necessary. My first ldl test caused me a setback. We know we have h, why cause more pain? Or fear? Doesn't help.

@here2help it isn't always easy finding an experienced clinician. In fact, for me, it's been quite difficult, though I am located in Canada. The one I am to see, the best one apparently, has only treated 10 people with h. I think when pain is involved it's alot more difficult to treat with trt and also doesnt work for everyone. Also for anyone interested Jastreboff still takes on patients. He is located in Maryland.

    2. I know of a case where impacted wisdom tooth caused t and when tooth was removed t went away. So, since t and h can be connected, I think that there is a chance it could cause h..maybe the nerves are inflammed much like tmj causing h. Fact is we don't know. We know acoustic injury can cause it but so can many other ailments. Either way, might as well eliminate what you can, as long as no drilling is involved. Perhaps the wisdom teeth are upsetting the trigeminal nerve? Many TN patients have h..Also wisdom teeth can cause migraines, another ailment that causes temporary h...things to think about. .

@here2help I know you're right. Do you think I should trust the woman who says she does TRT event though she is not a certified member?

There is no such thing as a certified member of TRT because there is no standardized TRT certification.

@demi I'm sorry to hear you are going through this; I know you are struggling. I think I would too -- I only have T and that was hard enough; as in, 'took me to my knees' hard enough . Nonetheless, there is always hope (for you); it may take longer to wrap your arms around all this, but eventually the human spirit conquers -- if you want to. That's the key, 'if you want to'. You can get your arms around this, you can accept it in its totality, and you can move forward in spite of all this hardship -- just maybe not today; but in time you can. I hope I don't sound trite; but some days are just 'one foot in front of the other' and eventually you find yourself running again.

      Until then, we're here :)

      Prayers!!

      Mark

lapidus, I have just been to the dentist and got an appointment with the surgeon on June 4th to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled as well!
Three of them will be a straight forward pull but the 4th, the bottom one, is impacted and needs to be cut as well as drilled out, I explained to her my fears and also that I'm a tinnitus sufferer and she openly admitted that she does not know a heck of a lot about T and even tried to tell me that nothing in the jaw or teeth will affect the ears!!!!

So of course I had to give her a lesson in the fact that they do and are all closely interconnected, was quite surprised that she knew so little!

I have decided to just get numbed so I can monitor the loudness of the drill, The surgeon did show me it and I was glad that it's low pitch sounding and not at all high pitched like the drill the hygienist used to remove tarter so am still a bit worried but have promised the wife not to get worked up about it.

If you go in before me can you let me know how it all goes and I will post after I get mine done if it will lesson your fears for you.

      Regards Rich

Yeah, I probably wont be going to the dentist before you. And when I make my first visit I will only do the upper ones first. Got some other appointments coming up before I go to the dentist also. That is weird that she didnt know about T and that the jaw and ears are connected. Everything seems to be connected somehow, neck, jaw, teetch, spine, ears and such.

@demi, darn Im a year late...I am a mess, I was feeling very un-related too, I'm very sorry about everyone's problems but form reading some of these posts I have commonalty with a few of you...I have tinnitus, extreme inner ear pressure, hypercusis, TMJ, Eustachian Tube Dysfunction, balance problems... I'm going to receive blood injections, ABI injections on the first week of October, I did much research on PRP therapy and was going to fly to Germany and see the DOC that (Danna White) the president of the UFC saw for his minearses disease in hopes of a cure for my TMJ doc thinks this will help with my tendonitis with my TMJ thus reliving pressure on my inner, GOD willing it works, I just want my life back, I've been dealing with ETD since veterans day of 2011, I have seen 20+ ENT doctors...some recommended by the others, then I started seeking help from otoneurologist, well I finally found a great oto-neurologist, GOD will help is on the way, if anyone is interested in any of the results let me know, also I've flown to San Diego to meet with a Doc that I saw on the Doctors show, well Im get some off the wall treatment...hopefully this work.

That isn't the only catch 22 lapidus. I posit that extraction of my rear right hand lower wisdom tooth put me on a slippery slope of neuropathy of my mouth which contributed to my tinnitus I didn't have previously throughout my long life. I have pretty severe nerve damage to my inferior alveolar nerve as a result and dysesthesia. In fact, I am considering an ablation to the nerve because of my neuropathy.

Not to alarm you...and age matters due to bone density...young is much better...three important steps to have your wisdom teeth extracted:
      1. go to the best oral surgeon in your area
      2. request a CBCT panoramic scan to assess tooth root to nerve orientation....both inferior alveolar nerve and lingual nerve. Society has a statistical distribution of position of the nerves relative to teeth roots..even no. of roots vary and both teeth and nerves vary greatly from person to person. If teeth roots are close to the nerve on either or both sides and you have the forecasted risk of periodontal disease if they are left in place, you are now in a literal catch 22. There is no good solution FWIW. Hopefully you get a genetic pass...I didn't and I have been freakishly healthy my whole life until getting a pummeling by Mike Tyson on my right side interspersed with connecting my mouth and tongue to a wall outlet...a new fangled type of electro shock therapy. ;)

      3. Get 2-3 professional opinions. Request a CD of your CBCT scan and take to other two surgeons for their assessment of risk.

Let me know if you have any further questions. I speak to people all over the world that have nerve damage due to molar extraction. I have read all the medical journalists and consulted with countless MD's and neurosurgeons.
      Best of luck.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. I have gotten 2 professional opinions and none of them thought that there was a connection between my hyperacusis/tensor tympani syndrome and my wisdom teeth. I also don't have TMJD (one of them was a TMJD specialist). But on the other hand I've read at least 3 patient testimonies about impacted wisdom teeth being the cause for hyperacusis which was resolved when the patients had them taken out. Altough these patients never mention if it's the lower or the upper ones. One of the dentists I asked said that if it was a connection, it should be the upper ones but who really knows? If I should get them out, I'll go for my upper right one since that one is mostly erupted and easy to pull and from what I've read, the risk for nerve damage goes mostly for extraction of the lower ones. Thanks for the info!

Audiologist mindlessly diagnosis any form of ear fullness as ETD or fluid behind the ear. They will not come to the conclusion that Loud noise trauma can cause ear fullness/blocked ear sensations
