Cause of Tinnitus
Loud music
My T has been very loud since I went to prom. I was there for about 4 hours and the music was pretty loud. Will it go back to my original pitch? Or am I stuck with this new sound. I haven't been sleeping and I've been worried sick. My t was hard to handle before but now it seems unbearable. I'm still a teenager and this is heartbreaking to me. My T is ruining my outlook on life... Please help.

How long ago was the prom? Hopefully, it will but you need to go to an audiologist or ENT asap and get your ears and hearing checked. Its possible you lost some of your hearing and even if it is moderate, the right hearing aids programmed in a way that can reduce the perception of tinnitus could really help you out I think. I am trying out a high end pair right now that goes to 12khz (most go to 6khz or 8khz) and it really seems to be helping so far. If that doesn't help talk to a doctor and tell him that you are feeling bad about tinnitus. Also, please let your parents know how this is hurting you. I am sure they care about you and want you to feel better. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you that they make hearing aids with maskers which, if they can mask your tinnitus, it may help you relax more. (You can turn them up in volume or down, or off) Hang in there! I know it seems tough now, but things can improve!

Prom was 5 days ago.. I've been to an an audiologist before and he said I had no hearing loss but maybe after prom it damaged me more... Thanks for the advice. Do you know how much maskers cost?

I don't know how long ago, your prom was, but give it a few days and see if it goes lower. If not, then you need to mask it. You can mask it by either getting a hearing aid with masker or listen to white noise or other soothing noise by using your iphone. Don't be hard on yourself, life shall be ok...

Hopefully it will go down but maybe you should call him up and tell him what has happened. When you do you might want to ask him if he knows any good RIC (Reciever In Canal) maskers. That would probably be the most comfortable for you. I don't know the prices of them. If you don't have hearing loss ask what the hearing aids would cost for just the maskers. I have hearing loss and am trying out Signia Pure Primax 7px that go out to 12khz. They have programmable maskers in them. I wish they were cheaper :( Many other hearing aid manufacturers have masking functions to. Here is a video talking about a certain hearing aid that is aimed towards masking but I have never tried it:

It's something to think about. Maybe you could try them and if they don't work you can take them back. If you start to get depressed or anxious tell your parents and go to a doctor. I hope you get better asap. Hopefully you won't need them though and your tinnitus will go down.
