Yes I've managed to reduce my tinnitus with ACRN. I say it every now and then so it's not unknown.

but you described it yourself. Habituation is often slow, clunky, "patchy" (some days are better than others), and technically ineffective. By every metric it's a bad treatment, assuming it even is a real treatment I could well argue that it isn't.

As I said, just because it's all we have doesn't make it suck any less.

@threefirefour - thank you for coming back.
      I appreciate it.
Is ACRN a treatment done in a clinic, or does one but a machine, or an app, and do it at home?

      No problem.
It's all three. You CAN have it professionally done, but that cost $5,000 (3,580 quid). You can do it at home for free but you usually have to sit at your computer which can be tedious.

      @threefirefour

Just one last question if I may.
We all know that there is some credibility in the notion of a placebo effect.
Perhaps with particular reference to Habituation.
We would all love to see an improvement in our condition, and can possibly ‘will that improvement into existence.’
Presumably you are confident that your apparent improvement is the real deal?
(No more questions - I promise - and thanks for your patience by the way.)

No it's fine. Yeah placebo effect is a big issue in medical research, because it's harder to weed out what's good and what's not. That's why there's a higher bar of clinical significance (usually P>.13 or so) then the usual statistical P>.05. Because placebo has a significant effect.

But the scientific research so far done suggests that ACRN does indeed have a significant nonplacebo effect on tinnitus reduction. It's not conclusive because there needs to be more studies, but overall the evidence suggests it works.

i am in a very unstable depressed mood
i was thinking about making a thread in Support for help but my problems are strongly related to psycho mental health problems that nobody understands and not just tinnitus.

      Thanks for the info TFF.
Since chatting with you I have watched several videos, read from numerous books and articles, and, even though it looks interesting, I don’t think it is the right thing for me.
My Tinnitus is not ‘tonal’ but rather a hiss type, which rules me out anyway.
Also, the prospect of wearing a gadget for hours a day, for several months, and all the rigmarole that goes with that; coupled with the thought of inconclusive success claims, not to mention costs involved, does deter me.
However, thanks again for the info.
      I learnt something.
      Dave.

No problem. I have a hissing tinnitus too btw. I haven't done much research because I just finished researching something else, but audionotch is apparently at least as good, especially for hissing tinnitus.

Oh Shit - TFF” - now I’ve got to research another treatment.
      Alright then - here goes.
      Funny isn’t it.
I am as sceptical (for sceptical - read pessimistic)
that this type of technical ‘sound tampering’ can actually work, as you are sceptical about “H.”
(I won’t mention the entire word - incase you break out in bad language etc....)

      Sceptical means harbouring doubts.
It’s impossible to be critical without being sceptical....(just sayin’)

It does but that's not what critical means. Being critical is having a rational look at something and sizing up its merits and drawbacks.

Let's be honest, habituation sucks. People only care about it because there's nothing else. If there was a treatment then nobody would care. It's that simple. I'm sure people can agree we need to look for something better. Now as I've said one of the main I'm critical of is the tinnitus research communities heavy over reliance and focus on habituation. They're clearly using it a small a crutch instead of focusing on the issue. But since this really isn't the thread for that (and I suggest you probably shouldn't be posting TT support forum material here), I'll make a post about it some other time.

      So like you and ACRN?

I have no issues with people disagreeing with me. Ive made my views against censorship abundantly clear through my time here. If you want do debate me on this that's cool, but you should probably PM me.

MPP is the one place on TT that doesn't fixate on habituation/tinnitus. That's what makes it cool. Please don't ruin it. Of all the places on TT to do this, this is probably the worst place.

Don't think I'm trying to kick you off or tell you to stop habituationposting. Just post better content or post tinnitus stuff less frequently. We've already taken up a page.

Well you should because I think the other stuff you post (comics, cats, etc) is quality. The occasional habituationpost is fine too, but we're spanning two pages already.

MPP is the one place on TT where habituationposting isn't encouraged. Pretty much anywhere else is a better place to have this conversation. Do you really have to do this one the one area of TT that explicitly avoids it?
