Hi everyone!
You might remember me from my introduction thread.
I'm back on the forum to share a success story, and hopefully offer some hope to others.
To keep it short: I no longer notice my tinnitus, not even when falling asleep. My hyperacusis is now extremely mild. At its worst, I would have rated my condition as a 6 out of 10, so this feels like a huge improvement.
During the first six months, I saw little to no progress. My tinnitus would spike from everything—even something as simple as my wife dropping a spoon on a plate. It was overwhelming. A course of Prednisone brought a slight improvement, but after that, things seemed to plateau. I became quite discouraged.
But then something shifted. Gradually, about half a year after the trauma, I started noticing improvements. I found myself reaching for hearing protection less often. These days, I only use it in truly loud environments. Before, I needed it almost everywhere, even inside my own home. Now, only very loud sounds (around 100 dB or more) bother me. That is all.
The only thing I actively did was take a large daily dose of NAC (2100 mg) and protect my hearing as best as I could from extremely loud situations.
I still cannot quite believe it, but I wanted to come back and share this good news rather than quietly disappear from the forums.
Thank you all for the support you offered along the way. It truly meant a lot.
