I've had high-pitched ringing in both ears for about 10 years now. I recently had a health issue, and now I'm experiencing a low bass sound in my right ear. I can turn it on and off with certain movements, and it seems to be noticeable only when I am completely still. Also, if I cover my ear, I do not hear the sound at all.

I'm confused, and it's starting to bother me. I don't like it, because it took a long time to get used to living with the first tinnitus sound. This new one is starting to bring back that anxious, panicked feeling.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hi @kotacash,

I am dealing with the same new low-frequency sound. I have had regular high-pitched tinnitus for about 14 years. About two months ago, it spiked badly as I have been tapering off a long-term steroid. Then, a few days ago, I developed a low-pitched hum in my right ear, exactly as you described.

I also have pulsatile tinnitus in the right ear off and on (the light whooshing kind), so adding this low-frequency sound to the mix, along with the severe high-pitched sound, is just too much.

Have you noticed any change in your new low-frequency sound? Do you mind sharing what health issue you are dealing with? I ask because I have several autoimmune conditions, and I am curious whether this new low frequency might be related to that and/or the steroid taper.

I have the low-frequency sound, but mine sometimes warbles and pulses (not with my heartbeat) and varies depending on the room. In silence, it either disappears or shifts into a single tone. When I use noise-cancelling headphones, it also becomes a single tone.

When I watch movies, it turns off when people speak but comes back the moment they stop. It's infuriating!

One thing that may help is that, if it's low enough in pitch, the starship noise completely masks it.

Are you able to live a normal life with this sound, or are you depressed and just barely getting by?
