- waiting for mri because lost hearing in one ear
Hi there,
I'm new to your group. I recently had sudden sensorineural unilateral hearing loss and couldn't tolerate Prednisone. I now have permanent hearing damage and chronic tinnitus. Doctors are giving me different explanations for why I lost hearing in one ear. The other ear has normal hearing.
Five days ago, my good ear started thumping and causing pain. I went down the rabbit hole and read that this can involve changes in blood flow. I decided to work out every day, and the thumping stopped. If I miss one day, it slowly returns.
My new otologist is ignoring my concerns and won't refer me for an ultrasound to rule out arterial blockage.
I also pushed for an MRI to rule out a tumor, among other things. This is supposed to be the best hospital in the country, Mass Eye and Ear in Boston, yet I am very underwhelmed.
I am flying out of the country soon, and earmuffs, musicians' earplugs, silicone plugs, and foam plugs all make my tinnitus much worse and give me ear pain.
Do you have any suggestions to protect my hearing on the plane? I have an aversion to noise, especially high-pitched, since I lost my high-frequency hearing in one ear. Thank you very much!
Ava
