My name is Dave.

My problem is that when I am in a restaurant, a full room or even a small room, playing cards with three of my friends, after a short while, I feel that my head is being bombarded with noise and feels like it is filled with cotton wool. It is a very uncomfortable feeling and sometimes I have to leave the room.

Strangely, it doesn't happen at football matches, despite the continuous noise level. Maybe this is because it is in the open air, with no walls or ceiling, as such.

Can anybody help with a remedy??

Listen to the signals from your body, and stop going to all of those places (including football matches). At this point, there is not much you can do for your ears. So do this one thing that you can do.

@Davetee, I would try to use ear plugs . I know this is a very debated topic here and many people dont agree . If you are getting spike right away or next day you should use plugs.

I am sure your ears are not getting damaged but i believe they get irritated . It happens to me all the time. If i go to loud restaurants my T spikes for 2-3 days and some times even longer.

This irritation Might be interfering with healing.

Ear plugs would be a start, but this forum is full of horror stories implying that ear plugs are often not enough...

I missed where the author said anything about his tinnitus spiking. He said that indoors at restaurants or with friends his head feels "bombarded with noise" and like it's full of "cotton". He said it does not do that at outdoor events, even loud ones.

That is not the same as louder, spiking tinnitus. Sounds more in line with hyperacusis or hearing loss.

@Davetee do you have hearing loss? I know for me, I often feel overwhelmed by noises in enclosed spaces versus outside. My audiologist even said that was normal. It's as if the sound bounces around more. In those situations, I put in a musician earplug. I feel like it does a good job filtering the noise, toning it down so I can hear better. Obviously if it's dangerously loud put in a foam earplug or leave.

What difference does it make?
