Anyone encountered having their existing tinnitus worsen by sudden loud noise?

Can I know the worsening or spike does it occur immediately after the loud noise? Or only spike or increase in T after the next morning after u wake up?

immediately but i you are under CNS depressant drugs like benzos alcohol and other can occur
after drug elimination.
Noise cause temporary threshold shift in hearing if this shift is temporary spike will go away
if is permanent spike will be permanent.
An permanent spikes can subside after long time if you don't do more damage to hearing.

I'm curious too. Constantly worried that some sudden, loud noise is loud enough to worsen my condition. Lack of answers here is actually conforting - that means it's nit that common I guess. I remember one person having a spike from a boot shut in the car, which is not that loud, but that was exceptional.

I find car doors slamming a problem. I think there is probably a sudden momentary increase in air pressure when the door closes if there is not a window or other door open. It freaks me out if it is too much anyway.

I know what you mean. That's why since the onset I look like a freak each time I close the car doors cause I do it with my elbow cause my hands are busy covering the ears . Same with the boot. Especially from the inside, because the noise cannot spread much. Also my bf slams the doors like crazy so no choice. Any sudden noise like this I can avoid, I do. Pity I didn't have time to notice that metal kitchenette lid slamming behind my back today One of the three loudest noises I experienced since the onset.

I can only tell you that I've experienced a lot of sudden unexpected loud noises since 1978 and have never had a permanent increase in the loudness in my T from one. Temporary spikes, yes.

Of course, this is just my experience. Hopefully, additional forum members will add their experience to the thread so that we might be able to get an accurate idea if sudden loud noises can permanently worsen a pre-existing T condition.

@jimH how long did those spikes last? I am 7 days in and scared this one is permanent
