Last year I developed constant tinnitus. And lately, it has gotten worse. In May of last year, I dealt with my cat in the final weeks of his life from GI Lymphoma. This caused massive stress in me, and I ended up getting sick with diverticulitis and put on the common 2-course antibiotic. This caused me to have oral thrush as a side effect, so given that mouth wash. That caused a side effect of HBP, so given a diuretic.
I was also taking three antidepressants in Wellbutrin, Lexapro, and Pristiq. On the Wellbutrin for about 6 years, Lexapro for 2 years, and Pristiq for 1 year. After encountering the side effects of the antibiotics and mouthwash medication, I stopped all antidepressants and surprisingly had no withdrawal effects.
I've had hearing tests done and was told that at 40, I have some slight hearing damage, but nothing that warrants any further treatment at this time, and that "there's nothing we can do for your tinnitus." That's always fun hearing that.
The tinnitus started last year suddenly. I'm not sure if it was from stress from my cat dying, the pandemic, a side effect of the antibiotics, oral thrush medication, HBP, or withdrawal from stopping my antidepressants all at once in a relatively quick time.
I'm at a loss, and the ringing gets so frustrating! Even if I have external noises like music or TV, it's just constant, and I hate it. I don't know what else I can do, especially since the audiologist said, "there's nothing we can do for your tinnitus."
Any holistic suggestions on what I can do for the tinnitus that has helped people? Anyone ever experienced tinnitus in a similar situation with medications or coming off anti-depressants? Do I need to go back on the anti-depressant, and maybe this is a withdrawal symptom?
It's just annoying and depressing AF and is constant.
