Pepto Bismol 8 Per Day for 5 Days

Hi,

Recently I was prescribed antibiotics for h pylori and it also included pepto bismol... 8 tablets per day to prevent diarrhea etc...

After this I developed tinnitus and even after one week of post treatment I still have it

Any way I reduce it? I am worried if this would be permanent side effect of pepto bismol

Thanks for responding.. I had to stop it on 5th day due to this tinnitus

Here is what I was prescribed for two weeks


1. Bismuth subsalicylate (petro bismol two tablets 4 times a day)

2. Metronidazole (one tablet 4 times a day)

3. Tetracycline HCL (two tablets 4 times a day)

4. Tecta DR (one tablet 2 times daily)

It's been 7th day I had stopped but easily could notice the tinnitus in quite room

Does it ever go away by time ?

In the 4th day there was clear episode of like some whistling for 3 secs in left ear

Left ear keeps getting tight for 10 seconds and relaxes .. I could hear though when this happens.

I couldn't find any of the antibiotics that he had listed on

In the past 20 years, 106 people reported getting T following taking metronidazole.

It was a good idea to discontinue taking those antibiotics.

If you are already in the "can hear it only in a quiet room" stage, you are probably going to be ok. Some people here take over a year to get to that stage. There is a good chance that it will go away, or at least fade in the next 3-6 months.

Seriously I agree! I wish I was either warned by doctor or pharmacist..

Silly me ..I should have read it ..

Ask your doctor for a list of other antibiotics that could be used to wipe out h pylori. Then talk to a pharmacist and also do some research on those drugs, and choose the one that appears to carry the lowest risk.

It is often the case that once someone stops taking a drug that causes T, T disappears in a couple of months. But sometimes it doesn't.

Can it be some infection .. I requested by Gp to referr me to ENT and ENT office called up and asked me to get the audiogram done first ..

I have scheduled it next week. Will keep posted .

GP told that it could be middle ear infection or just some pressure ..

Currently I am using Nasonex nasal spray precribed by GP.

I think it's increasing day by day ..

Surprising hat even after stopping the medication he onset is high .. was thinking it could not increase once I stop the medication

Hearing test result:

Threshold are WNL
Otoscopy is clear
Tymps are slightly positive and reflex is unremarkable

On different note I feel the eating sensitivity had increased. Even a slight sound which was okay earlier seems to be loud ..

Not sure if mind is playing tricks on me or I am too conscious

Mine is increasing slightly daily even after stopping 10 day back

Now I can easily hear it .. intensity has increased on right ear as compared to left ..

is it possible that even after stopping Ototoxicity drugs the it could increase after a weeks ?

It should be fading away right ? Or at least the volume should be coming down ..

For anyone did it take months after stopping Ototoxicity drugs ?

Finally scheduled for CT scan... Does the radiations affect the tinnitus in any way? Any suggestions would be helpful.

Hi, about 18 ago I came down with T, probably due to a combination of pepto and aspercreme, which both have aspirin as a main ingredient. I was told that after a few weeks it should disappear, and I'm still waiting for that to happen. Good luck and hopefully yours will go down in time.
