Hello: Firstly, thanks to everyone who contributes their stories and knowledge to this website. ❤️

For the past 10 days, I have been experiencing a pulsing and throbbing in my right ear. Sometimes I hear it in my left ear but only when I lay down to sleep. It is much worse in my right ear.

I am 66 years old. The sound is constant and synchronized with my pulse. After pursing the internet, including Whooshers.com, neuroangio.com and countless medical journal articles, I am wondering if I have Pulsatile Tinnitus.

A week ago, I was seen by my GP, who seemed not at all concerned. I shared a few short articles about PT, but she felt that it was most likely related to my anemia and would disappear once I started taking iron supplements. I am scheduled for blood panels later today. Unfortunately, she refused to order an MRI or a hearing test.

I am worried that there is a serious, underlying vascular problem. Instead of going from doctor to doctor which seems to be a common experience, I’d like to get evaluated by someone who is experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of PT.

I discovered Dr. Shapiro in NY and The Pulsatile Tinnitus Clinic in San Francisco, but I have difficulty traveling too far from home as I am the sole caretaker of a family member with a life-threatening chronic disease. I am hoping that someone here could recommend a colleague in the Seattle or Portland area, or anywhere within a day or two of driving. Perhaps you know an otolaryngologist or another specialist who has experience with PT, and would order the appropriate imaging, etc.?

I am just beginning this journey. It has helped immensely to read the stories of others. I spend an enormous amount of time and energy caring for my loved one, so I’m hoping to zero in on my condition and get the necessary treatment as soon as possible.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this email. Any assistance or guidance would be greatly appreciated.
