After two years of severe tinnitus, my shrink put me on 7.5 mg of mirtazapine. I had a new lease on life. I wasn’t sleeping at all, and the mirtazapine put me out the first night, and I didn’t look back. My tinnitus was still severe, but at least I was sleeping.

After some time, my tinnitus became more moderate, and I cut back on the mirtazapine, spitting the 7.5 in half.

After some time, I stopped taking the mirtazapine completely.

Now everything is great. My tinnitus still varies from moderate to severe, but it doesn’t bother me. It is the new normal.

Waiting for a cure isn’t realistic. I don’t think scientists are breaking down doors, to cure 10 percent of tinnitus patients.

That means you are depending on other people to help you. We all know how that ends.

I am happy for you, but please remember that just because you can cope well, does not mean others can as well.

Some severe T (and H) sufferes push through each day, only because of an inner hope of a future treatment or cure, so while you may not find it realistic at all, some people have only their hope left......and who are we to take that away from them?

Hope can be fleeting, and isn’t realistic. And I suffered as much as anybody for two years. You have to help yourself. Nobody is going to do it for you.

Stop saying it isnt realistic. Nobody knows what the future will bring. Plus it is hurtful to people who have been suffering with severe T for several years.

People who are suffering have to come up with a different game plan than waiting for a cure that might never happen. I’m not trying to rain on anybody’s parade, but I have noticed to many people praying for a cure, while eschewing other methods of getting better. Some cognitive measures can help, as can different medications. Self pity isn’t a cure.

@TheDanishGirl: I apologize for feeling better. I know it bothers you that I’m not miserable. Maybe if you listened more, things could turn around for you as well.

Oh please! Get of your high horse!

I dont mind one bit that you are better, but I mind it very much when someone puts other people down, which you have done. I will always defend those who have lost everything to T (and H) and have nothing, but their hope left.

Who do you think you are taking that last "safety blanket" away from them!!

I agree with you girl, it’s sad to feel better and want to destroy poor souls now, rather than understanding how it feels like to feel hopeless and drag on day by day.

Anselmo I don’t wish to point out the bleedin obvious but you really have just burnt your bridges here with a show of pumped up habituation bravado that bordered on arrogance and rudeness to a young woman who is vulnerable and suffering,so I genuinely hope for your sake - and I don’t say this unpleasantly- that your mastery of this condition continues so successfully.

If not will you have the front to return and admit you’re still suffering?!? I suspect not. So good luck my friend.

Okay. I thought I was done with you, but I can't ignore that comment.

That is a beyond disguting remark and shows what an asshole you are. You get some sort of ego boost out of kicking people who are already down??!!

You're rude. You should humble yourself because with tinnitus, setbacks can happen.

Who will you go for support? You will only lose helpful understanding people. We only have each other to support one another. Why call out on someone's way of trying to move on forward with life? If you want to stick around, it's best to keep it friendly and peaceful. You can help guide people towards the right path of habituation, though it's not easy for everyone, each person is different. People are constantly battling a daily battle and feel in survival mode.. why bring down their only hope that keeps them surviving? Keep that to yourself.

Like you, I've habituated to loud tinnitus. Congrats!

However, I think you need to tread more carefully with your posts here because we have many people still suffering with tinnitus and are feeling quite vulnerable.

@DebInAustralia: Perhaps. I think these members are being led down the wrong path though. As you and I both know habitation is a reality. They will have us think that only a cure is the answer, and they scoff at any other method of recovery. These people are so wrong, and are doing a disservice to the tinnitus community. Congratulations to you too.
