Hello everyone,

I just joined Tinnitus Talk after such a horrible night with it that all I want is a cure, even though I know there is not one yet.

Last night, I woke up right after dreaming and my tinnitus had increased in volume by about 150 percent. The screeching and intensity were very frightening. I have had similar instances in the past when waking up during the night, but last night was different. The sheer volume and the noise it produced seemed to involve my whole brain — left ear, right ear, everywhere. It lasted for a long time, and I could not fall back asleep.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm sorry you had such a horrible night. It's so hard when things are bad and then they get worse without any direct cause that is obvious.

I definitely feel like the intensity of tinnitus is highest when I first wake up and the volume for me has increased along with it having more of a pulsing (irregular rhythm). My dreams have been disturbing, staying with me all day long and making me anxious about going to sleep later that day. I'm investigating all kinds of different issues with all kinds of specialists and I started having visual disturbances that I will be seeing an ophthalmologist about tomorrow.

I was on a low dose of escitalopram to try to help with pain issues and my doctor had me abruptly stop when I was starting to have pain again and it seems like the new tinnitus symptoms and the visual issues both may have started after I stopped the escitalopram, but I don't know for sure. I think we all just feel confused by what's going on and and hope that things will go away, so we don't keep track of every symptom.

Best of luck to you!
