Suggestions for Noise-Cancelling Headphones?

Can anyone recommend any noise cancelling headphones? I use ear plugs for loud noises (vacuuming, etc) but I've been looking at getting some headphones that I can quickly put on in the event of sudden loud noises (like a smoke alarm) for immediate protection. The ear plugs I have laying around are those cheapie foam ones that take you smash down and then hold in place for them to regain their shape and block out noises properly? Well those take forever to protect since they have to expand back out when you need something immediately..

Any suggestions?

I'd recommend custom moulded earplugs, there are ones that support a handy lanyard and they are very quick to put in the ears. For many purposes I imagine those being more handy than noise-cancelling headphones...

Where do you get those?? I'm interested in them because someone said I could still use them with a headset at work and they practical for going to the movies and other things plus you can still hear regular conversation?
