Cause of Tinnitus
Noise Induced
I got tinnitus after going to a Living Tombstone concert back in September. I do not think the concert itself caused the tinnitus, but rather all the screaming, especially since it was in a closed-space venue. Near the end, one girl screamed so loudly that my left ear went deaf for a moment. I even recorded a video of it on my 3DS (which heavily boosts bass, so the audio is not very accurate).

The concert was a blast, and so were my ears. Right after it ended, I noticed everything sounded muffled, but I did not realize how much damage I had actually done. It was not until two days later that I really started to notice the problem. I heard a faint, hiss-like sound in my left ear, similar to the sound a CRT TV makes. I have heard this sound before after being exposed to fire alarms or loud jet engines. I assumed it would go away after a day or two. I searched online and found advice saying to give it two weeks, and that it would eventually fade.

Well, here we are seven months later, and it is still not gone. When it first started, I only noticed it at home when everything was very quiet, but now I hear it constantly, even when I am outside. I have also noticed that the sound seems to keep switching between my left and right ear.

I have started to come to terms with it and accept that I messed up, but one thing that still bothers me is that any moderately loud sound causes pain in my left ear. I have had this sensitivity since the symptoms began. Anything louder than a normal speaking voice hurts my ear, and I am worried that I might have hyperacusis. I have read that hyperacusis can resolve on its own if it is noise-induced, but I am still concerned because it has been a full seven months and has not improved.

I have been wearing earplugs to every concert I have attended since then, and I have not had any issues with the tinnitus getting worse. I had my ears checked by my doctor, and he said they look perfectly fine. I have also been going to the gym, avoiding alcohol, and getting as much sleep as possible. These things seem to help alleviate the symptoms a bit, but they do not make the tinnitus go away completely.

Should I see an ENT? Should I try Magnesium Glycinate, which some people say may help?
