Cause of Tinnitus
TMJ (diagnosed by ENT and dentist)
I've had tinnitus for 4 months. I've had TMJ for years, I wear a bite guard. My ENT and dentist feel my tmj has brought on my tinnitus. Four months ago I went through two major life changes within one week, I've been super stressed and anxious since then and pretty depressed. I'm taking a muscle relaxer at night.

I am told by both my dentist and ENT my tinnitus will subside once my stress level decreases.

Any ideas on relaxation techniques etc, I'm really getting frustrated with the ringing, crickets in my ears!!! Thanks!!!

For relaxation, there are different approaches. You can use herbal supplements such as Lemon Balm, Hops, Valerian, Kava etc to help calm the nerves. You can try yoga and other meditations, such as mindfulness meditation. If you don't know how, try google 'mindfulness' or search youtube. You can also try abdominal breathing. Again youtube will have videos on this. Also try to pursue your interests or hobbies as these can help to distract your brain from paying attention to T and will help to relax you. Some people find going to the gym helps them and others like me like to go to the outdoor to relax and unwind. To each their own. Take good care. God bless.

Running water or white noise sounds can help take your mind of the sounds. At the very beginning what really helped me with sleep was medication. Try exercising, massage, etc. but if it doesn't work don't be afraid to go to a specialist to help you deal with Tinnitus (as opposed to a dentist or a regular doctor).

Best,

Any ideas on relaxation techniques
I have been drinking tea made from Valerian Root. 2 spoons of Valerian root per 2/3rds of a cup of boiling water, let it stand in a thermos for a couple of hours. I drink that 4 times per day. I also take a lot of Valerian pills. I believe this has helped me to get my T-induced panic under control.

Most of the time for TMJ to be considered with Tinnitus one's needs to have other pain or discomfort. Most common would be neck pain, ear pain and head aches.
