Tinnitus Possibly Linked to Jaw Clenching or Dental Issues

Hi everyone,

I started getting tinnitus about a year and a half ago. It seemed to coincide with two things: being made redundant and catching a cold that gave me an earache. I've learned to live with it, and at times I can go a day or more without thinking about it. But it seems to come in cycles, and I feel it is related to my teeth or jaw.

I've already been to the doctor here in the UK, and they could not see anything wrong. I also saw an ENT specialist at a local hospital who found nothing unusual and confirmed I had no hearing issues. I've visited the dentist more than once, and they said my teeth are in good shape. I even had an X-ray done. There is no evidence of grinding, although I do feel that I clench my jaw at times.

Recently, over the past week or so, it has been nonstop, pretty much day and night. The ringing is very high-pitched and feels central in my head.

The reason I think it is connected to my teeth or jaw is that I often have a sensation in that area at the same time. It is like the feeling you get when someone scrapes a blackboard. I even feel it when talking, to the point where I would rather not speak, like when I am reading to my child. It is not exactly pain or even discomfort, but it just feels odd. I can also sense it in the bones beneath my eyes and cheeks, almost as if they are swollen or throbbing. It is really hard to describe, which does not help.

I tried a mouth guard from Amazon, but I could not get used to it. Still, I feel that until I have properly tried one, I cannot say for sure whether it is linked to clenching. The clenching really started when I lost my job (I am fine now), and I do suffer from anxiety, as many of us do.

More than anything, I am just looking for answers, such as whether my type of tinnitus has a name, so I can conduct further research. I have had a good read through the message board, by the way.
