Hi, everyone! I recently began using this forum because of a tinnitus spike last week. I had habituated over the course of two years w/ tinnitus, but a recent spike (possibly caused by headphone use/intense stress) has caused me a lot of anxiety.

On top of that, I have been experiencing mysterious visual symptoms. It began one day about a month ago. I was outside and began seeing a flickering/pulsating, colorless aura in the center of my vision in both eyes. It is most prominent in bright daylight or when looking at a plain surface. So far, doctors have said they suspect that this is an ocular migraine, but I am confused as to why it has lasted for nearly a month so I do not completely believe that diagnosis.

Then, I had my tinnitus spike after a few weeks of my "migraine." While trying to get used to my tinnitus spike, I actually began to forget about my visual aura. Yet, this week they have worsened immensely, with the sudden onset of black floaters (mainly in my left eye) and after-images.

Finally, today I drank coffee and about an hour after drinking it, I noticed that I was seeing faint flashes of light and even a few small, faint dark spots every few minutes. It has continued until now (about 6 hours) and in the last few hours I've had a headache. This has me extremely worried, so I'm hoping that, at the very least, it was a normal migraine with aura triggered by my coffee intake and not a serious issue with my eyes. (Granted, the eye doctor told me there was no issue with my eyes/retina a couple of weeks ago and that's why he diagnosed a visual migraine)

I have talked to my doctor about my tinnitus and visual aura so I am waiting to hear back about seeing specialists for the issues. It's so hard to just wait, though, because my tinnitus spike and these odd visual symptoms are worrying and I'm paranoid.

In the meantime, I was just wondering if anyone has any information? Thank you!

This seems nothing like ocular migraine, this seems more correlated to either of these (ranked from more to less likely) : 1. Vitreous detachment 2. Retinal detachment 3. Serious macular issues 4. Something doing serious damage to your central nervous system, especially the optic nerve 5. Something affecting your occipital lobe.

Vitreous detachment damages are reversible IF caught and treated early.

Either of these potential causes are (very) serious, this is not an overreaction or paranoia, GO TO THE ER NOW! Ask to see an ophthalmologist if nothing is found, ask to see a neurologist, DO NOT WAIT!
