Cause of Tinnitus
Loud Noise
I have been dealing with near-constant tinnitus for about a year, which began after a long dental procedure involving a loud drill and an extended time in the chair with my neck in an uncomfortable position. My neck muscles have been tight ever since, and they can worsen my tinnitus when I turn my head far to the left or right or protrude my lower jaw. I have undergone an MRI, blood tests, and audiology tests, but there has been no progress in identifying the cause.

At one point, I used Flonase directed at the eustachian tubes, which provided one or two days of silence. However, it eventually stopped working, and I experienced severe mood swings from the medication, so I discontinued it.

A few days ago, I began taking a daily 200 mg dose of Magnesium Glycinate an hour before bed, mainly for its supposed sleep-promoting, muscle-relaxing, and nerve health benefits. It has helped me achieve better, longer sleep. I had previously tried Melatonin and Cyclobenzaprine, but both caused unpleasant side effects.

Coincidentally, I have now experienced a few days without tinnitus. It is still present when I wake up, but it diminishes within an hour or two after drinking a glass or two of warm water. Any remaining mild noise disappears after a long, hot shower using the "massage" setting on the showerhead.

I will see if this improvement lasts. I am hopeful.
