First-time poster here. My tinnitus got worse six weeks ago after I started taking Escitalopram. I then switched to Citalopram, but it made no difference. The tinnitus was about a 6 out of 10 at that point.

Now I am on Mirtazapine, which has made it worse. I have read that it can cause tinnitus, but I need the low dose just to be able to sleep. I am also taking Promethazine.

Today, my tinnitus is at a 10 out of 10. It sounds like screeching railway brakes, mainly in my left ear. I am feeling desperate and looking for reassurance.

Has anyone managed to habituate even when their tinnitus has been this severe?

Hi @nicfalconer, sorry to hear this. To keep it brief, please take a look at the Neuromed thread if you are considering the medication route.

Also, if you are able to support our mission at Tinnitus Quest, please do. It is the only organization solely dedicated to pursuing real treatment.
