When you Google tinnitus, you will see the Mayo Clinic's info pop up describing the condition. It usually says "Can't be cured, but treatment available". This to me is horribly misleading.
Things like CTB and noise suppression are NOT treatment. They treat anxiety, depression, or try to hide the problem rather than actually try to disrupt or attack the hyperactive neural circuitry inducing this. The drug AM101 is the first real treatment I have seen attempt this, but for many of us, this drug will not help since it has been more than 3 months. Still, it could cure new tinnitus patients. I'm sad I didn't learn of clinical trials for it until the post 3 month mark.
It's safe to say I feel my life is ruined at a young age and my will to live hangs in the balance as a result of this terrible affliction. Life is cruel to give such an awful affliction that is worsened by stress and stimulants. You try and feel good and serotonin and dopamine surges make it worse. Low levels make you depressed and make it worse.
I feel the Mayo Clinic's snipet should read "Can't be cured, coping mechanisms available", because so far I see little to target and attack channels the brain needs to generate the noise. Until the brain becomes our enemy and stops being our friend, we won't get a cure.
