Touching an Earplug While It Is in Ear — How Loud Is That?

How loud is it when you touch an earplug while it is on your ear. When you touch it it makes a really awfully loud noise.

Can this noise damage hearing?

When I was putting an earplug in my ear my finger got stuck and my finger was scraping this earplug and that noise lasted for 3 seconds.

My tinnitus feels like it is much louder in that ear. Freaking out!

Ummm, no. I do the exact same thing and it is not loud enough to increase tinnitus. If touching an ear plug could cause hearing damage, there would be a whole lot of people with ear plug-induced damage. There would be thread after thread on here of people saying, "I got tinnitus from ear plugs." Audiologists would caution against touching them when they're worn.

Now, your anxiety on the other hand . . . yeah, that will make you think your tinnitus is worse.

I'm actually super cautious when i touch ear plugs. not anxiety in my case, tinnitus goes up, but very temporary. i don't believe there is any hearing damage, but it is annoying.

Can this noise damage hearing?

No way it could damage hearing, but it can certainly lead to a temporary spike. I assume that those temporary spikes are not good for one's healing. Two or three months ago, I took out an earplug too fast. It felt loud and resulted in a spike that lasted more than a day. You ought to be ok, but make sure to be more careful next time. Looks like everyone has similar experiences (as far as causes of temporary spikes are concerned).

You might also want to ensure that neither you nor anyone or anything else touches/hits the cups of Peltor muffs while you are wearing them. That sounds pretty loud too.

Touching your ear plug ? Not going to be a problem, their is nothing to worry about. And it's very doubtful that the phone alarm will cause any hearing damage either.

Try and not focus on it, if anything you may have a slight spike. no reason to freak out.

Try and stay busy and get plenty of sleep.
