      Cold + airplane
      Hello,

I got tinnitus in my right ear a month ago after taking a transatlantic flight while congested due to a cold; I had trouble equalizing in the ear for two days after the flight, and then I woke up on day three with a high-pitched electronic ringing. It was extremely loud for the first two weeks, severely disrupting my work and sleep. I took a hearing test: no nearing loss. I went on Prednisone and my T seemed to calm a bit, but now that treatment is over and my T seems to have plateaued—I still hear it over TV, music, etc. It's loudest in the morning, quietest in the evening (especially after a couple of beers!). An ABR test found nothing unusual. My doctor said come back in four months, but I'm wondering whether I should seek a second opinion. My understanding is that unilateral T with no hearing loss is somewhat unusual. I'm also wondering whether it's too soon to begin tinnitus retraining therapy. I'm 40, and live in Washington, D.C. Thank you for any advice.

      Best,
