I play strategy games all the time. Starcraft 2 and Dota. I hit Master's league in Starcraft 2... and I had to work on my brain to pull it off. To say any of this surprises me would be completely wrong. You have to seriously improve your on-the-fly analytical skills tremendously to stand a chance vs someone who is a "master" at the game.

Gotta say, getting to that point feels spectacular. The day I started beating Masters consistently and became one myself was wonderful You not only feel smart, you can say you are smart
