There is also something less threatening - to me at least - about the noise of chatter compared to the noise of a nightclub or concert. I've never come away from a conference type atmosphere, or football match, with ringing ears, ever. Same goes for the cinema as well. But every nightclub, or gig, I ever went to, I always came out with ringing in my ears. Obviously, this was all in my pre-bad T days.
This is also just my opinion based on my experiences of noise.
