What Do We Think Spike Really Is?

I'm confused. Ive had T over 3 years and it stayed in one ear and on a normal day did not spike exept when i was tired. I now have a new t after a lot of stress which is higher and often is in both ears and can spike at will, but I really cant figure out why a spike would happen, anybody got any ideas.
