What Have I Got?

Hi,
new to the forum and finding very interesting information. Just wondered if anyone can help with my symptoms?
I have low buzzing all the time, also at times my ears feel blocked with pulsating noise. This gets worse after drinking wine or exercising. Im also sensitive to high pitch sounds - a childs scream or the school bell ( I work in a nursery) after those noises my ears ache for a while. I sometimes get a pain in the back of my neck.
I have been to ENT but they just say I have Tinnitus. I dont find them very helpful at all.

It can be really frustrating when you go to doctors with your symptoms and they just dismiss you, and suggest you "live with it". When tinnitus is new, it is very hard to deal with, and can cause a lot of worry, anxiety, lack of sleep, and sometimes even panic attacks. You've come to the right place for lots of helpful information and support. Welcome!

The low buzzing may have to do with some mild degree of hearing loss. Have you had an audiogram (hearing test) done recently? That feeling of fullness, or blockage, is common among us tinnitus sufferers, particularly when it first begins. I had the feelings of fullness for at least two years after mine began, but I don't have it any more, so it's possible that yours will subside in time, too.

Being sensitive to high-pitched sounds could mean that you also have hyperacusis. We have a whole section on this forum devoted to hyperacusis, and you may want to go there and ask a few questions of those who also suffer from it. A lot of people say that hyperacusis may go away in time, too.

As for the pulsating, I have pulsating tinnitus that is constant (all the time), and it can often be vascular in nature. However, since yours occurs mainly when you exercise, it may just be due to heightened sensitivity in your ears since the onset of your tinnitus.

Do you have some past injury that might be causing the neck aches? Maybe it is related to the tinnitus. Have you asked your doctor about any neck problems that you may have been experiencing in the past?
