Assuming one does not have any haircell loss , I cannot stop wondering what T really is and why it manifests. What if all is by design and it is just there to tell you: "Houston, we got a problem, something is broken". Therefore habituation completed does not deal with the root cause of the problem but the symptom only. What if every frequency of the T or its pattern is associated with specific pain signal and could be associated with specific pain area?
      8400Hz - tooth problem
      16000Hz - Leg issue
      2400Hz - eye problem
      etc.

Maybe it is just a stupid though of the angry T sufferer, but gives me hope.
Now, all we need is a T reader to to read and associate the pain area.

      This is VERY interesting thought.

I too believe T is a signal that something is not right. My T came after a badly contused lower back, broken thumb, slammed jaw and head injury.

My ear started ringing 2 days later and has not stopped. Prior to accident i was very stressed/sleep deprived.

      All hearing tests/audiograms are NORMAL.

For me it makes sense as many people with t have no hearing loss.
No offense to trt but what if we try to get used to the noice that might be trying to tell us something. Kind of like trying to ignoring pain hoping it is nothing.

I agree. I think it's something like when you fall and have a scratch. You have to repair the scratch by letting it heal and not getting uses to the scratch.

If you ask my psychiatrist, he will tell: T is the voice of your soul. Fix what is wrong and you will have silence.
Tried for 14 months finding out what is wrong with my soul. No result yet.
The truth is that indeed I was exhausted/burned out. And T was my alarm signal.
I found one good German T site where they say:
T is an alarm signal. Unfortunately one that cannot be switched off (easily) once you have fixed the root cause.
If I have found the switch, I will tell the world.

Find another shrink, Martin. That is ridiculous if he´s being serious.

He is serious because he wants planning for 30-50 sessions finding the culprit.
Honestly, last time he was a little bit frustrated with me.
Because I have a good job (with great colleagues and an understanding boss), a great family, I have money (could even retire), reached a lot with age 45 (like others not with 90) and so on. So he does not know how he can help me.
Unfortuntaly I become more and more tired in explaining people about the dog whistle in my head.
So I mask, I suffer, I try living a normal life and hope for some relief some time in the future.

If you really believe that you tinnitus is a pain signal, then you've got absolutely no business doing TRT.

There is no culprit. Sounds like he has some interesting views but you will be wasting your money trying to cure your soul in the hope of curing your tinnitus.

I don't have anything against trt, I was just trying to see tinnitus as something special trying to tell us that there is a problem.

I didn't take it that way at all!

Right. And I'm saying that if you think your tinnitus is a symptom of something that is a threat to your health or life, then you shouldn't do TRT.

We're tracking together on this one, my friend!

Dr.Nagler is there anyone that you would recommend in the Cleveland area?
Would want the correct provider, been blown off about it with the doctor who dispensed my hearing aids. He added a generic white noise sound to them, actually his assistant did.
      Thanks

But even if t sends a signal and problem is fixed what if t does not shut off? Then trt might be the only solution. I wish I could tap into software in our brain and get to the root of the problem and later give out solution to everyone at no charge!!!

I think you might be making this more complicated than it needs to be.

The causes of tinnitus that can be corrected and in so doing mitigate or ablate the tinnitus signal are well-known. And the causes of tinnitus that are a potential threat to health or life are well-known. So once those have been ruled out, which takes at most two or three visits to the ENT (usually one), the cause of one's tinnitus becomes largely irrelevant. At least that's how I have come to see it.
TRT is never the only solution. But in knowledgeable and experienced hands it is a highly effective one nonetheless.

Computer software has issues sometimes too, but you can usually just reprogram and redeploy with bug fixes.

That's why gene therapy & knowledge is so important... we can fix the issue if we can reprogram the body to fix the ears when it detects that they are injured.

I hold Dr. Sharon Sandridge at the Cleveland Clinic in very high regard, but she does not do TRT. If you are looking specifically for TRT, the closest top drawer clinician to you would be Dr. Gail Brenner in Philadelphia. You would need to see her in person once; all the follow-up can be done long distance via phone or Skype.
