Why such a sharp contrast? How can anyone possibly habituate to this insane cycle???

      Could you quantify the contrast?

Baseline being a 1-2 on a scale of
1-10 and the spikes being 9-10.
The bad days can get so bad that Im extremely hearing impared when they occur.

Well, you start by challenging your emotion-based thinking.

Your cycle is extremely unpleasant, but it is not "insane." Describing the pattern of your tinnitus as "insane" puts up a totally unnecessary barrier to the habituation you wish to achieve.

And your spikes? They are absolutely not unbearable. By virtue of the fact that you have been experiencing them since July 2012, they are by definition bearable. Unpleasant, yes. Unbearable, no.

So in response to your question, I think a good place to start would be to stop catastrophizing and putting up barriers to your own success.

      All the best -
