Been using very loud tools today (seriously loud ) with full ear defenders with no adverse effect, however a hammer and chisel does induce plenty of physical impact through the body so maybe this contributed , otherwise just a random spike.... ?

Four weeks with T and I have to use power tools a couple of days a week , I religiously wear full ear defenders with no adverse effect, totally reduced the sound impact even with tools that I used before that would make me shudder at the violence of the sound they would emit.
