Don't miss the opportunity to attend Tinnitus Quest's online Q&A with Dr. Susan Shore and Jon Pearson, CEO of Auricle on October 13. We will hear the latest about the Susan Shore Device.
If you already know the cause of your symptoms, I would personally stay away from all tests but the basic hearing test (& letting the ENT look in your ear(s) with an otoscope), because they are loud & can aggravate your condition. This is especially so if you have any hyperacusis.
I think the tests are most helpful in cases where the person doesn't know the cause for their symptoms.
@MadeleineHope Thanks that is very helpful. My intuition tells me the same. I did let her look in my ears which I guess is okay. I will consider going through with the normal hearing test too. Have you done so too and did it work out alright?
I did have a regular hearing test, just declined the tympanometry & the acoustic reflex test. I seemed to be ok after it if I remember correctly, but I did the test quite early on when my T wasn't yet multi-tonal & severe H hadn't set in.
But overall, if you don't have H (or have very mild H), you should be ok. Some ppl mention the speech-in-noise component being on the louder side, but again, unless you're struggling significantly with H, you should be ok.
