It stands to reason, if you block out all other sound your brain will focus on whatever sound is there... IE.. your T. It would not be different than being in a silent room. Ear plugs are not going to make the T sound be less, and by removing external sounds you in turn have less to "mask" the T sound

Theirs is most likely just milder and quieter

Wearing earplugs is not easy for us, but we bare through it.
