I always have to pop my ears using the Valsalva maneuver throughout the day. However, in the evening before I go to sleep, it seems like my ET gets backed up with mucus sometimes. As a result, I hear a hissing sound that lasts all night and makes sleeping difficult. Essentially, it's close to a mucus build-up, and I can hear a squishy sound when I pinch my nose and blow.
I read in some articles that the Eustachian tube closes during sleep. Somehow I feel like my Eustachian gets blocked too much during sleep because sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and swallow repeatedly to stop the blockage. The strange thing is that when I fall asleep again, it gets blocked again. Sometimes I don't sleep at all to prevent the blockage. @Supersix

Did you try using Afrin three hours before going to bed? It can provide relief for up to 12 hours. I would only do one spray on the affected side to see if it gives you comfort. That or a saline rinse before bed
Do you experience frequent drainage from your nasal passage? If yes, taking 10mg of Sudafed in the morning may help to dry it. Also, do you notice your nose running randomly throughout the day or during meals?
