How to Deal with the Grief of Tinnitus

Yeah absolutely Louise. Emotional suppression is like a pressure cooker ;-) And as strange as it may sound, sometimes i really enjoy sadness, sorrow, anger ..etc. (like in art form for example..films , music ...visual art ..etc) I guess i was focusing on those "negative loops" that we can...

How to Deal with the Grief of Tinnitus

Hey Terry I know this post is about mourning the loss of silence, but I gotta say man.... you are doing great! When we first spoke about a month or so ago you seemed to really be in a tough place without a hopeful plan to move forward and now look at you. Getting things done .. eating well...

How to Deal with the Grief of Tinnitus

Haha! Same thing happened to me last week. Walked into a club and realized my earplugs were missing after I was already in ..had to endure a 30 minute set from a band with a talented, but wailer of a singer .. The only thing that was helpful was knowing that I can recover from this. I think...

No Music for a While — I Have Tinnitus :(

Thanks Erik! YEah I've learned to get a better seal now by twisting them in a little. They seem to be doing their job. I guess i really need to stand in front of my Amp with an SPL meter to see exactly how load my normal stage volume is. Then if the 15's can bring down the DBs to below 80 I...

No Music for a While — I Have Tinnitus :(

Hey Erik did you get the 25db inserts or the 15's? I just got mine (from a different company) and got the 15's ... it doesn't feel like much protection at all and I'm a little worried to get in front of an amplifier with them (the doc was out when i picked them up so i could not get more info)...

No Music for a While — I Have Tinnitus :(

Man this is exactly how I felt in the beginning! Fortunately I'm getting better at living with this every day so I'm able to mix and make music again. Thanks for posting this Calin!

How can you tell that it's getting better?

Thx Emma!! I guess i am trying to figure out if I am habituating or if the supplements are calming things down. Ultimately it doesn't matter as long as things are getting a little better. I will probably keep taking the supplements anyway. Extra Zinc and Ginseng are still pretty useful...

How can you tell that it's getting better?

Thx Mario. Just doing the best i can really. I was really thrown off though for a couple of months. Not used to being that upset for a such an extended period like that. I just wonder that if I discontinue the use of the supplements I'm taking, if that would effect my "progress"

How can you tell that it's getting better?

I've had a false alarms before (ringing subsided only to come back) but for the last week or so things seemed to have calmed down a little. I still have the ring for sure, but its much more in the background and I am no longer having hyperacusis attacks every day (only once this week...

    Warning others about tinnitus

Yeah I totally do this now. I was online reading some news about how our city mayor (New York city) was going to spend $250k on a new awareness campaign to educate teenagers on the dangers of using earbuds/headphones too loud. ALL of the comments we rants on how it was such a waste of money ...

What Clique — If Any — Did You Belong to in High School?

I was shape shifter .. musicians, jocks, the smokers/leather jacket crew, nerds, band nerds, rednecks, gangstas ... etc. I hung out with em all. I was so into music at the time and played in bands all throughout high school so my gtr got me into many social circles ;)

    Anxiety and panic are back!

For me I can literally outrun panic and anxiety. Maybe you can out swim it? Also some kind of meditative exercise to engage the mind as well... I'm an avid martial artist. Consistent training really does balance you out and can help with T anxiety. Even a low impact art like Tai Chi ...

    Anxiety and panic are back!

No worries Terry .. there have been a few times where i thought I was done with it because it got so quiet only to be slammed the next day with the "siren" I am starting to learn what my best "distractions" are though .. for me it's best to exercise, play music (quietly) or listen to tunes...

    I feel a new level.

Man i hope my plan works. I love playing loud music :) When ever the hyperacusis kicks in I am trying to push myself a little more to ignore it. As long as the noise is not at a dangerous level 70-80 db max Am I making things worse you think?

    Hello, Musician with Tinnitus

Yeah for sure. I doubt I would go anywhere near an amp or sound system without the plugs. I don't even step outside without noise isolation earbuds (not playing music through them) Thx Fish!

    Clonazepam (Klonopin, Rivotril)

WOW .. I don't think I will ever touch that stuff after reading this. RaZaH, sorry if this is a little off topic. (I can start a new thread if you want) Have you had to make any adjustments to the way you mix? I also have some loss in the 4k - 6k range (left ear) and was starting to ask...

    Hello, Musician with Tinnitus

I just had the molding done last week for my custom plugs. The only difference on mine though is that I have the option to put in a 25 db filter rather than a 20db. I also ordered a 15db filter (apparently the filters pop in and out easily so you can swap) for when I am playing with acoustic...

    I Can't Concentrate

I know how you feel Larry. I wake up like I'm some kid anxiously waiting for a college acceptance letter (silence) only to find another denial letter in the mailbox (good ole' 8400 Hz ringing away). I think the key for me is to fight disappointment. I'm not saying I am a master at that...

    Hi All

Thx Aurelientt. Yeah I kind of wish I used the gum to ween off instead of those e-cigs. I probably wouldn't be in this situation if I had done so. Ah well. I can't say that is has been a totally negative experience. The constant ringing actually inspired me to use a similar sound in an audio...

    Hi All

Thanks for organizing this forum! (whoever you are ;-) I've only had tinnitus for about 2 months now, but it's been quite a ride so far. Mine is a high pitch ringing mostly. (around 8400 hz) I'm not 100% sure how it all started, but my best guess is that it started because of nicotine...
