Cause of Tinnitus
A loud Concert - Noise Exposure
So my son blew an air horn right next to me for a about 2-3 seconds.

My ear feels kind of warm now. No pain or loudness in T yet. But hopefully this won't cause a spike or affect T. :/

Hopefully nothing that could worsen you T.
Try not to worry unnecessarily.

Take care.

Thanks mate, I guess my anxiety just needs someone to tell me it'll be okay.

I know loud sounds that are very short rarely do damage. But I guess we all worry about our T worsening.

I know how you feel, I am suffering from what is hopefully a temporaly Spike. And probably triggered by some short noise exposure. I'd like to know who had permanent increase by short sounds like yours (and mine).

how long has the spike been going on for?

From what?
Any pain or other symptoms?
Not really, did have pain for a couple of seconds every now and than.

_might_ have had it from a headphone spike.
Some alarm in the headset that went off, didn't even stress. Thought it wasn't that loud..

Oh, no flu or headcold or anything?
Hope it goes away soon.

I had a headcold a week or so ago and my tinnitus spiked.

I agree with the delayed reaction. If you get past 24-48 hours with no spike, you're probably fine. When I've had loud noise exposure for brief periods of time, my T spike hits after about 24 hours and then goes back to baseline after about 1-2 weeks. However, in my case I had my ENT put me on methylprednisolone and I also took magnesium and NAC supplements.

Is the methylprenisolone another name for prednisone steroids?

I don't seem to have pain or anything but yeah I guess I'm just worried.

Yes, both are steroids and do the same thing. I was told by my doctors that methylprednisolone is a little easier on your body. Some of the side effects are not always fun, but I seem to have tolerated it pretty well.

I see. Thanks for the info.

What kind of exposure did you have? Did you have other symptons?

It was live music at a restaurant though I've had T for several years. The music made my T way worse but went back to baseline after 2 weeks.

so did you get another tone? Or just heightened existing Tone?
It was a tripling of the existing sound and 2 new tones. There was a pure midtone in my left ear and this oscillating tone in my right ear that sounded like a dentist drill. And during all that, a couple times I had this screeching tone that lasted a minute or two that scared the crap out of me. Thankfully, all of it went away.

I'm glad to hear it all went away!
It can be scary stuff :/

Thanks. Yes, I was scared for a while that it would all be permanent because in the past T spikes usually went away after a day or so. This went on for MUCH longer and was more intense then anything I'd ever experienced. I know now that I need to do much more to protect my ears and avoid loud places.

I hope your ears are also doing well. Either way, you'll get through this and any spike will likely be temporary. Sending good thoughts your way.

Thank you my friend!
Again thanks for taking time to answer my questions.

I've lost the count of how many times I've heard spontaneus loud sounds by accident. I have 2 boys, and things like this happens. If the loud sounds is not a big explosion, a gunshot nears your ear, or a firealarm (stay away from them)... I'm almost sure you will be ok.

In the long term, the anxiety about it could really increase the perception of your sound...then you will start to think that the exposure to the loud sound really damaged your ears, bringing more anxiety, and more Tinnitus.

The best for you,
Johnny.

Thanks johnny, I agree.
I don't think it did any damage. I guess it's just our instinct to react the way we do in fear of T worsening.
