Cause of Tinnitus
Stress? Who knows...
In 10 days it's gonna be 3 months for me.

Unfortunately between the good and bad moments it hasn't gotten any better. I started having one sound and now I've got 2 sounds.

I just sent an e'mail to the TRT facility in Valencia asking for prices and how long the treatment period lasts for.

I'm feeling down, still bloody amazed I've been shoved into this horrible nightmare.

Can I still be obtimistic that this might get better for me? Is it still early days to come to a conclusion or I'm just screwed?

Did you attend any loud concerts? clubs? festivals? before your onset?
Did you use an ipod?
TMJ issues?
Did you take some drugs (ototoxic) before your onset?

Yes

Is it still early days to come to a conclusion or I'm just screwed?

What makes getting to a conclusion difficult isn't so much the time you've had T for, it's the fact that you don't know the root cause. In some ways, it's better than having determined a non-fixable root cause (like me or other people with hearing loss), because you have a question mark instead, which means you could simply suffer from something that is treatable...

When I went to see my ENT for the first time, he thought it was stressed related. I completely agreed with his hipotosis taking in account the situation I was in at that moment. Then I only had a buzz in my head, then later on I got an eeee in my right ear, which I think I already had, but just got worse. When I went to see him the second time (two and half months later) after taking Ginko pills and getting shots to undo any possible swelling in my neck, it was just the same only with the my additional eeeee.... That's the thing I whish I knew where this came from. Thank you for your reply. You really need to be patient with this symptom. Constant annoyance and constant patience to see where this is getting at....

The thing is, "stress" is often brought up when doctors don't know the real source and don't want to appear to have no answers. It's also pretty easy to blame stress because tinnitus patients are visibly stressed when they first consult with a doctor, simply because of the onset of their Tinnitus. I've never come across any scientific study establishing a causality between stress and tinnitus.

For me, the relationship to stress has always been tinnitus causing stress, not the other way around.

If I were in your shoes I'd go down the diagnosis path with the help of a trusted doc and this flowchart https://www.tinnitusresearch.net/index.php/for-clinicians/diagnostic-flowchart

¡Buena suerte!

When I got T suddenly I was going through a very stresful period. Had kidney stones and a catheter pigstail inside me while I was waiting to be treated. Day after day there was one complication after the other that made my life in that particular period extremly stressing. But yes, I agree with you. I have to see another ENT but this time in a private hospital and let's see what he can do for me (not very much) but we'll see. Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it and muchas gracias!

Remember that 3 months is still VERY early, wait for a year and see what happens. There's a good chance it will get quieter.

Thanks CG. It's just a real bummer. I whish it could get to the stage that I can only hear at home and not outdoors.
Stress, paranoia, and fear for the future is a normal process with Tinnitus...just remember the hopeful thoughts and the happy ones too...give yourself a little credit and go treat yourself with something nice. =]

Yes I remember your introduction post. I'm sure it was a stressful period, but I'm unsure it's the main reason why you have T. Let's see what the doc in the private hospital says! Keep us posted!

My first bout of tinnitus was moderate and lasted more than 2 years (26 months or so).

After an acoustic trauma everything got worse and it took more than 1 year to notice any improvement. I did not make any progress during the first 10 months. At some point I thought it was getting worse.

In my experience, the timeframes of 3 months or 6 months are just Internet myths.

Thanks for your reply. Yours came from acoustic trauma, mine on the other hand I whish I knew what caused it. The uncertainty, not knowing what the time frames are, not knowing if it will get worse (from my understanding it's very uncommon) just really spoils everything...

Yes, the 3 to 6 month time frame I completely agree with you. After reading tons of posts on Tinnitus Talk, 3 to 6 months is nothing really. I wonder where they got that info from...

Some studies suggest that, if hearing loss remains stable, tinnitus tends to improve over time.

Perhaps you have lost some hearing cumulatively over time and it is not due to specific acoustic trauma. The cities are very noisy.

If you think you will not improve, at least think about the treatments that will emerge in the coming years. Neuromodulation or regeneration of the inner ear, something will work.

Take care!

I suggest not listening to time frames people post here, everyone's different and you'll know when it starts to get better. When I first got T it took 3 months. Then I fucked up and it took around 14 months for it to let off a bit
