Hello, I'm Nicole, 22, and I've had tinnitus since I was around 14 years old.

I guess it started when I had the flu, I was relentlessly blowing my nose and one night I blew it super hard and I felt a sharp pain and high pitched sound in my right ear, and thus my weird morse code sounding tinnitus was born! (At least, this seems to be the only reason how I could have got my tinnitus)

It wasn't until a few months later that I finally decided to go and see a doctor about it, so numerous tests and a few specialists later, it was confirmed that I had tinnitus and there was nothing more they could do for me... so that was great (Also a bit of a wasted 2 hour trip out to the specialist)

I often freak out if it gains any volume or if my ear blocks because I can't handle the constant sound, so I always have to fall asleep with the TV on in the background to drown out the tinnitus... much to my sister's dismay who has shared a room with me for a number of years haha.

You can indeed buy a noise machine. However, if you enjoy saving money, you can download one of the many sleeping apps on your phone for free. They do exactly the same thing. Good luck.

Make sure you use a free standing unit or pillow speakers at night and set it below your tinnitus....dont use headphones or ear phones

The audiologist I met today recommended "Resound Relief" on iOS and Android. I haven't used it yet, but it seemed pretty cool. It's also free, which helps.

I have unmaskable tinnitus, it's reactive, but I do now have some days when it's low, no idea why, but when it's really bad, I play a cd of waves breaking on the shore. It's magical, and although doesn't mask the tinnitus, it's restful. Played low, as @glynis says.

      Hello,

I developed tinnitus in my right ear 2 months ago along with a crackling sound in the same ear which is triggered by noise.

Saw numerous ENT's. First diagnosis was a blocked Eustachian tube and recommended nasal spray and decongestants. Found no relief and saw another specialist.

Saw a specialist the other day and he diagnosed me with tympani myoclonus. Dr said this was a pretty rare condition. Now I'm feeling so anxious and worried.. Has anyone here ever experienced this?
