      Middle Ear Infection
Hi I am new to this forum and I have had Tinnitus since October 2017 after a middle ear infection. Was put on a course of antibiotics which cleared up the infection but left me with this annoying hissing sound in my left ear. I have been to see the ENT doctor and they said my ears are ok but couldn't tell how long I would have this hissing sound . Could anyone advise me is there anything else I can do to get rid of this annoying sound.

Unfortunately no - there is no cure. But it's quite possible that your T will fade in time.

How loud is it? Is it tonal? Do you have hearing loss?
There may be some sound therapies you could give a try to.

      Thank you for replying.
At the moment I am getting spikes in the tone it can be quite loud for 4/5 days then go really low . I have had no hearing loss at all. When it is loud I get a hissing sound and sometimes a droning sound but I am trying to stay calm and not get myself stressed up.

Did you have to do a hearing test with an audiologist?

No but I did have a test to check to see if the ear drums were working ok and that test came back ok.

That isn't sufficient I'm afraid. I suggest you go do a hearing test with an audiologist (with Pure Tone Audiometry). It'll give you a picture of your hearing (and you will literally get a picture - an audiogram - out of the process).

      No problem.
If you feel comfortable about it, you can post your audiogram on the forum once you have it (feel free to blank out personally identifiable information), in case somebody spots something useful.
      Good luck to you.
