So tonight we had a bad thunder storm, and to my shock (no pun intended), a bolt of lighting cracks loudly nearby where I'm sitting (indoors). Right after this I started playing white noise (supposedly reduces chance of potential hearing loss in mice) and took some NAC and Magnesium Citrate (should have taken it earlier I know).

My question is does anyone have a source on how loud that noise is? I was inside, though close, so I imagine the raw dB level was decreased some. I am paranoid it will strike again, but I can't control that. I just worry this stuff will fuck up my ears and damage my hearing. I of course do have mild hyperacusis, so there is that to consider.

      Advice?

      ALWAYS HAVE PREDNISONE AVAILABLE.

You should do a prednisone taper dose.

That is not realistic advice. I will ask my doc, but that's about all I can do on that front. I'm not sure how anybody *always* keeps Prednisone on hand.

Agreed. Prednisone isn't a mild drug, either. It's quite taxing on the body and if someone is already predisposed to anxiety, etc. it can wreak havoc.

I experienced major thunder here was well (Central VA) and was outside in the garage when it struck. My T has been screaming at the top of its lungs today, but this started well before the thunderstorm came through. I think you'll be alright especially seeing as you were inside the house at the time.

Hey you're in my area! Yeah it wasn't exactly right next to me, and being inside helped. I don't know, trying not to be anxious about it. I do feel great on Prednisone, but it not like docs just dispense it on request.

If you feel good on the prednisone maybe call up your GP. My doc around here was very willing to prescribe it but was already way too late for me at the time.

Where about are you? I’m not too far outside of Charlottesville.

I'm out at the lake now. It's not the hardest medication to acquire, though my doc is more reluctant these days. And I got it after a car accident I had a month ago, so I can't imagine the place I got it will dole it out either. But there is always a will and a way I suppose.

I’m at Lake Monticello if that’s the lake you’re referring to. Shoot me a PM.

      It's thunder, that is loud.

My building's sound dampening and proofing is pathetic. My advice is to stay indoors and have ear muffs nearby. You can't really anticipate it every time but usually the thunder will be somewhat long and usually happens a 2nd time meaning an interval of some kind.

I don't think it is harmful to hearing. I hope not anyway.
