Anyone Ever Have to Just Leave a Store Because It Was Too Loud?

Cause of Tinnitus
noise (Concert)
I had to today. I was shopping at Aldi and it was busy, but there was a father with 3 small kids (all of them shoved in the shopping cart) and the kids were totally out of control, screaming, yelling, laughing, and the dad was egging them on, putting frozen vegetables on his head and dancing around (I'm not kidding). I kept trying to avoid them but the carnage could be heard through out the store. I finally had to just give up and leave.

The funny thing is, I suspected a problem when I arrived at the store, and put in foam earplugs. Even foam plugs were not enough, and I left!
Anyone else ever have this happen? The world is getting ridiculously loud.

BTW, on the way home I saw a lawn mowing crew doing work at a business, and I noticed the guy (young 20's) using the commercial mower had no ear protection in. Why is Tinnitus such an unknown?

I will never understand why people are not taught about this more. I swear to god this is like cancer/aids, it kills you bit by bit. This is so terrible that If I knew about it 6 years ago or so I would have never listened to the ipod.

Society is rude and careless. I was in the gym and this guy comes and takes the extension of the free weight I was working on. He just took it and did not bother to ask If i was using it (even though I was in front of that machine).I cared less how big he was, I told him that you cannot just do as you please . I was very firm with him and he knew it. You have to stand up for yourself in life. There are rude people that think of themselves and careless for you and I. I am normally a very nice, caring, loving guy as I show it on this board. But trust me, I will not be taken advantage of and I will let it be known.

I have had to walk out of stores before as well when it was too loud. Never have shame in doing this. Your ears are top priority, that dad with 3 screaming kids doesn't know what world you, we live in. I have tons of parties that I get invited to and most of them have screaming kids. I use to go to them but the parents egg their kids on to scream more and be out of control. I use to try and tell them that please have your kids not scream as much. If they scream please have them scream away from me.

These people never cared and I use to to get angry over it. There is no point in doing that to yourself. I have taken all these people out of my life and I THANK MYSELF for it. It took me a while to do this but my ears and sanity is much better.

I hate lawn mowers with PASSION. Every time I hear it it just makes me angry and I have to find my ear plugs and plug them in.I normally never use ear plugs(except in concerts and sporting events), but when I see lawn mowers I use them quick....

Bless all my TT fam!

I wish I knew about it before too. Far too many people don't know the damage that can be done by noise.

Funny little story: My son is around 30, and he was at an outdoor concert a while back. Well, he knows what happened to me, so he and his friends stood way back where it wasn't too loud. There was a couple guys right behind him and his friends, and they started yelling and screaming with the concert. My son plugged his ears and turned around to see who was screaming. The screaming guy laughed at my son and asked if it was too loud for his tender ears. Thats how ignorant people are.
PS..my son was a Sergeant in the army (Special Operations) and could have took this jerk out if he wanted to, but he just moved.

It's motorcycles for me. I have to (feel I need to) put earplugs in every time I go to pump gas because there will inevitably be some jackass with a loud as hell motorcycle going by. Almost without fail.

We need a complete shift in awareness. People need to realise for one that going to a concert or a gig without ear plugs is gambling with your life. 2nd that headphones are incredibly dangerous. Its insane in this day and age and completely un forgivable. I can live with what happened to me but i feel i cant live with not being educated properly about Tinnitus and only finding out about it at 35 because i have it. You cant just tell people not to do something either because they wont listen to you, you have to make them understand the ramifications. Handing out earplugs at these events for example is just not enough on its own. Like someone has said to me people will still continue anyway like they do with smoking, but just imagine it, there would be outrage if people were dying of cancer in 2018 and only learning about the risks once they were diagnosed. In this day and age the apathy surrounding this condition is just disgusting and i cant get my head around it. My entire body has been compromised, taken over by this demon that now inhabits my body. Im no longer one whole person but completely split in two.

I tried to offer earplugs (individually wrapped) to a worker who was leaf blowing near my home. But he didn't want them, even after I told him about tinnitus.
Yup
My neighbor was out with a CHAINSAW with no protection. I brought him a pair of earmuffs to use and said he needed to protect his ears. He laughed and put them on, but I noticed 10 minutes later he had them around his neck.
True story

You could try describing T to him. He might be thinking that the only thing that's at risk is his hearing.
@Bill Bauer Yeah, I probable should have, but the truth is I don't tell people about it. I have only told a very few people I trust about my condition.
I guess I figure they won't understand anyway, and I don't want somebody saying they "knew a guy who had T and never got over it". People love to say the wrong thing sometimes.

You could say that it is a friend or a relative who has been suffering from T...
