I had friends who had hearing aids in high school and college, and it was never something I thought about very much. They seemed to interact and have fun and so I never thought too much about it.
Now that I'm approaching 40, I am seeing more and more of them in my older peers, as well. Someone saw me putting in earplugs at a kid's party, laughed, and said "these days when it gets too loud I just turn my hearing aids off, presto".
I went to religious school with a girl who wore hearing aids long before I ended up with tinnitus. I knew her from middle school and onwards. I never thought anything of it and I considered her a friend. She enjoyed musical theatre and she sang along to prayers during religious services.
