What is life like for you? Is it hard to go out, explain the hearing aids to friends/people who cross paths with you?

Do you still go out to bars or clubs?

I had friends who had hearing aids in high school and college, and it was never something I thought about very much. They seemed to interact and have fun and so I never thought too much about it.

Now that I'm approaching 40, I am seeing more and more of them in my older peers, as well. Someone saw me putting in earplugs at a kid's party, laughed, and said "these days when it gets too loud I just turn my hearing aids off, presto".

I went to religious school with a girl who wore hearing aids long before I ended up with tinnitus. I knew her from middle school and onwards. I never thought anything of it and I considered her a friend. She enjoyed musical theatre and she sang along to prayers during religious services.

This thread is quite old, but maybe you are still here to read this...

I got my hearing aids when I was 27, I'm 33 now.

I loved to wear them and I only left them at home when I went out to bars and clubs.

They are very expensive and I didn't want to lose them drunk and wasted ;)

They are so small, most people don't recognise them.
