      Tinnitus Since:
      2011
      Cause of Tinnitus:
      Exposure to loud noise
Over the past 6 weeks, I've been dealing with a significant tinnitus spike which I'm concerned is becoming permanent, combined with onset of hyperacusis (high noise sensitivity, but fortunately not painful).

I went to an audiologist. He recommended I get open ear buds, and start listening to "soothing sounds"(relaxing music, ocean waves) for relief.

I have avoided headphones and earbuds for years, because of concerns over further damage to hearing.

      Thoughts on this recommendation?

Continue to avoid the earbuds. Could try to listen at low volume via a regular speaker.

Didn't work for me. Could still hear the ringing. I use a sound pillow instead.
