Just brief intro as I am still taking in the wealth of information on this site. I have tinnitus in both ears, it is a hissing sound, generally of equal volume, suffered for 8 years+ and the cause was showering. I know for certain as at the time I began to notice hissing in both ears after my shower which rapidly disappeared. Consequently I thought little of it, but after a relatively short time the hissing no longer disappeared. A visit to a GP some time later when variable volumes started occurring, resulted in a diagnosis that "nothing can be done, everybody has it". I obviously now know he was a d***head. Further investigation was pointing to "solutions" that would cost money and also the wonderful 'brain training'. This I consider to be bs, as (probably with many sufferers) at a normal level, if you can focus on something else (book, tv, computer) then you become unaware for a period of time. I did take some advice I discovered with general success, no caffeine, take Gingko Biloba and go to bed when tired so as to fall asleep quickly. I later added further medication called Tanakene, which is a Gingko Biloba liquid which I take morning and/or night when the volume is higher. I can confirm limited success with this treatment as, taken a couple of hours before bedtime with a higher than usual volume, there is a noticeable decrease to more tolerable levels. Other than these, when higher levels are causing anxiety I take Alprazolam (many similar products available) and at intolerable levels I listen to 3 hours of waves downloaded from YouTube. I have a lot of different downloads (including some from here to now try) but I find the waves to be the only ones I can cope with at high volume levels. Not so brief maybe ...

GPs are USELESS! have they been trained to say "nothing can be done, you will learn to live with it"?? is that how it is done in med school?

do you think ginkgo biloba helps you? welcome to forum

Hi Stink, sorry I am late responding. I've been on the forum a few times and didn't know anybody had responded to my intro. I started taking Gingko Biloba tablets as I had read that they 'help'. I cannot say that I ever noticed any benefit but having started taking them, I had to wonder whether T would have been worse without. However, and here is a clearer response, I was prescribed, at my second visit to a specialist (another mainly waste of time), Tanakene which is GB in liquid form and was taking this morning and night. If having a loud spell in an evening, taking a tablet and dose of Tanakene a couple of hours before bedtime has certainly reduced the T. Several times, without any doubt, the volume has dropped by one or two points (5 down to 3/4). It does not make any noticeable difference at lower volumes but it/they have certainly taken the edge off when T is at an uncomfortable volume level.

Hi Ace, I can call you ace right? Thank you for sharing your info. I am only in 3 years. You sound like you are doing reasonably well. I am 68 and pre T have been through a lot, back then I used to ask why, now I see those experiences have given me strength to deal with T now...

Take Care and glad to have you aboard...
